Harry Potter Scrabble is on its way
Game nights are about to get magical: a Harry Potter-themed Scrabble game is coming.
Potter fans, we know what you are thinking: “Finally, a version of the game that will allow me to use a 10 point ‘Q’ tile to spell quidditch without worrying about my fellow players claiming it’s a made up word and consult the Scrabble dictionary. Yes, it’s true! In fact, using words like “Quidditch”, “Muggle” and “Veritaserum” can even earn you bonus points in the new Hogwarts approved game.
USAopoly – a games company that publishes licensed versions of classic games like Monopoly, Yahtzee, Life and more – announcement this Scrabble: World of Harry Potter will be available on store shelves from spring 2019.
So what makes it different from traditional Scrabble games? In this new version, Harry Potter fans can display their vocabulary from the Wizarding World and earn “Magic Words” bonuses. Character names, series locations, spells, and potion names are all accepted (and even encouraged) in the game.
Additionally, unlike classic Scrabble, there will be a card drawing component, in which players can earn extra points by completing challenges.
Along with the new Scrabble game, USAopoly will also be releasing a Harry Potter Defense Against the Dark Arts game. We don’t know much about it yet, but the Press release says it will be a two-player game modeled after the popular Harry Potter battle at Hogwarts. It will also be hitting shelves in Spring 2019. Sounds like fun!
Want to throw an entire Harry Potter themed game night? USAopoly has a few additional thematic games that are already for sale. You can currently find this Clue: Harry Potter game in stores.
It also sells a Potter-themed version of Trivial Pursuit, known as Trivial Pursuit: World of Harry Potter Ultimate Edition. The game is ideal for any group of players ages eight and up.
The new Harry Potter Scrabble game and Defense Against the Dark Arts game will each cost $ 29.95. If you would like to purchase one to start your next game night, both games will be available at Barnes & Noble and at local game stores.
Game nights are definitely a fun way to spend a night. But if you want to get out there is also another Harry Potter-inspired option to consider. A Harry Potter-themed beer festival is touring select cities by March 30. And yes, there is butter beer!
