Rochester Minnesota hosts biggest chess tournament since 1958
The Rochester Chess Club announced Rochester’s biggest chess tournament since the 1958 Chess Open. Kings and Queens (and those around them) will arrive in town on Saturday and Sunday, July 9 and 10, 2022.

The 2022 Rochester Chess Open will take place at the Mayo Civic Center. This United States Chess Federation– the ranked event is expected to attract around 100 players, including some of the top chess masters from Minnesota and the Midwest competing for $3,000 in prizes.

This led me to Getty Imaged to find a photo of the 1958 Chess Open, but no luck. I still found some really cool pictures.

The club meets most Tuesdays at the Mayo Clinic Harwick building, South Cafeteria, 201 3rd Avenue SW, Rochester, MN. Park for free on the street after 5:00 PM weekdays/all day weekends or at a nearby parking ramp. Participants must be free of COVID symptoms and wear a mask. If you haven’t already, please get vaccinated for everyone’s safety.
